An ISS career path in engineering can lead to project management, consulting, and even executive leadership roles. As engineers gain experience, they often have the flexibility to move into specialised areas or interdisciplinary fields where they can apply their skills to new and emerging challenges.
Apprenticeships are designed to help employees gain the knowledge and skills required across various professions and competencies. Alongside on-the-job training, apprentices spend at least 20% of their working hours completing classroom-based learning with a college, university or training provider which leads to a nationally recognised qualification.
Apprenticeships are now available at any stage of your career regardless of your age, seniority or previous qualifications Apprenticeships can be studied at level 2 which tends to be operative level, up to level 7 which grants the learner a master’s level degree.
Here is a snapshot of some of the technical apprenticeships that we offer. This is not an exhaustive list, but it will give you an idea of some of the more popular courses that are undertaken here at ISS and the typical job roles usually associated with courses.

Depending on the job role requirements, some of these courses will require additional training to ensure that we are legally compliant and only permit individuals with the right qualifications to undertake certain tasks.
For example, an electrical engineer who has completed the ‘Installation and Maintenance level 3’ apprenticeship, will include also need the electro Technical NVQ and AM2 Certificate, City & Guilds 18th Edition course, if installation works are required. If testing and inspection are also expected to be carried out, then an additional course such as City and Guilds 2391 or equivalent will need to be undertaken.
Separately, management apprenticeships offer a practical path for developing leadership skills through on-the-job training. Apprentices gain experience in areas such as project management, team leadership, and communication while collaborating with experienced managers who provide guidance. These programs are ideal for accelerating a leadership career, as they provide valuable skills, mentorship, and qualifications, creating strong foundations for future leaders across the business.
